Stranger Danger | Schools

An attempted abduction draws attention to another aspect of school safety. A Waukee fifth grader was near her neighborhood bus stop, when according to police reports; a man in a black van approached her.  The girl ran home to safety.  

Teachers are asking parents to talk to their children about what to do if they are approached by a stranger.  They say all children should know of a safe place in their neighborhood to go in case of an emergency.

An annual safety assembly was already planned at the Maple Grove School, where the girl attends.
