WATER SUPPLY: Chemical Found In Waukee Water | News
The latest victim of the drought is the Waukee water supply.
The city found high levels of a chemical called total trihalomethanes or TTHM in the water a few months ago.
The water is safe to drink and does not pose any immediate risks, but it can be bad for you if you are exposed for a number of years.
Low water levels and high water temperatures from last summer are to blame.
Forecasters think we’re in for another hot, dry summer, so the city is planning ahead.
Gary Benjamin of the Des Moines Water Works says, “We are looking at some things we can put in place that we can hopefully deal with the TTHM`s at the treatment plant, get them lowered at the treatment plant so that our customers and our suburb customers will not see that happen again.”
People in other Polk County communities have also been impacted and people can still drink the water.
